Come fly with us!
This summer planes, trains, helicopters and hot-air balloons will fill the day and skies at the Benton County Historical Museum for our free “Up, Up and Away Family Day at the Museum”. So pack a picnic and bring the whole family for a free day of fun at the museum.Hot Air Balloons
Beginning at 8:00a.m. the museum’s front lawn will be filled with hot-air balloons and other activities. Members of the Willamette Aerostat Society will set-up their hot-air balloons and a circuit of information stations Children and their families can speak to the pilots, learn fun-facts about balloon flight and, weather permitting, take a tethered hot-air balloon ride.
Planes, Trains and Helicopters
In the afternoon model airplanes and drone demonstrations will fill the sky along with a visit by the REACH Air-Ambulance helicopter. Art activities will be available for kids of all ages courtesy of local artists and the Corvallis Arts Center. The Benton County Public Library Bookmobile will be visiting with craft projects and books about flight.
The Oregon Electric O Gaugers will have 2 model train displays with moving trains in the museum’s Moreland Gallery in conjunction with the exhibition:“The Documentation of the End of the Age of Steam – Railroad Photography by John Ullman”.
Families can maximize the museum experience by doing a scavenger hunt while exploring a fascinating exhibition on flight which covers everything from the early development of the airplane to kites, helicopters, toys and commercial travel. Did you know the Wright Brothers’ father, Milton, spent time in Benton County and that CH2M cofounder Fred Merryfield was a biplane pilot during WWI?
