The Oregon coast will be celebrating a milestone when the Celtic Heritage Alliance holds its 5th Anniversary celebration of the Newport Celtic Festival & Highland Games beginning on Friday, June 12th.
The weekend kicks off with both a 1k and 5k Kilted Fun Run at the Nye Beach turnaround at 1:00 pm. Then, the sand flies at 3:30 with the annual Sand Sculpture Contest and the Gathering of the Clans happens at 8:35 pm with local piper Kym Jacobson piping down the sun at sunset.
This year, a very special “Concert by the Sea” will be held at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds from 7-10pm. Concert tickets are just $10.00 and will feature live music from The Fire Inside, Cleghorn, and BROTHER returns for this special celebration. The concert is included free with the purchase of a two-day festival pass.
Each year, thousands flock to the coast for this weekend filled with live music, dance, and athletic events honoring the mystical lands of seven Celtic nations of Brittany, Cornwall, Galicia, Isle of Man, Ireland, Scotland and Wales at the Oregon coast.
Patrons can stroll through nearly 70 indoor and outdoor vendor booths which offer tasty and authentic Celtic food and drink, unique Celtic crafts, jewelry, clothing, musical instruments, or visit one of the Clan tents and trace their ancestry, and even bring their well-behaved dogs along for the fun.
Saturday and Sunday, the gates of the festival open at 9:00 am at the spacious Lincoln County Fairgrounds located at 880 NE 7th Street, Newport, Oregon.
On Saturday, special events include a Celtic Heritage Parade full of vibrant color and culture including with the Kells Irish Pipes & Drums leading Celtic clans, performers, and anyone with Celtic dogs or with red haired “gingers” joining the fun.
Don’t miss out on the Haggis Eating Competition or the Bonnie Knees Contest and Children’s activities for the wee ones can be had at “Sprog’s Corner” where kids enjoy free arts and crafts projects, face painting and storytelling or participate in mini Highland Games athletic events.
Sponsored in part by Ultrasonic Events, Oregon Coast TODAY and Jeffery Shirley Designs; proceeds from the 5th Annual Newport Celtic Festival & Highland Games will continue to support the Celtic Heritage Alliance’s mission to promote and preserve Celtic culture on the Oregon coast.
