The Lord & Schryver Conservancy will hold its second open garden of the season on May 1 at Gaiety Hollow, located at 545 Mission Street in Salem, Oregon. Gaiety Hollow, on the National Register of Historic Places, was the home, offices and garden of Elizabeth Lord & Edith Schryver, pioneering landscape architects in the Pacific Northwest.
Lord & Schryver were masters at creating year-long interest in their gardens using a succession of flowering shrubs, annuals and perennials. The May garden will include spring blooms of azaleas, rhododendrons, tree peonies and weigela. An original planting by Lord & Schryver of the climbing, thornless rose, Lady Banksia, will be in full bloom. The garden will be open for viewing from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1. Admission is $5 for ages 16 years and up. Volunteers will be available to answer questions.
