The Discovery of King Tut

The Discovery of King Tut tells the story of one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. The reproduction of the burial treasure in its original archaeological context offers a compelling insight into the historically unique discovery of the Pharaoh’s tomb in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings more than 95 years ago.

An Evening with Dr. Zahi Hawass

Over the course of the approximately 90-minute multimedia lecture, Dr. Hawass will, in addition to Tutankhamun, discuss the search for the tomb of Queen Nefertiti, new insights on the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the exciting research into the tombs of Cleopatra and Mark Anthony.

Curved Space Comedy Presents: Even the Earth is Bipolar

Join science-comedian and stand-up philosopher Gregg Eisenberg for Even the Earth is Bipolar – a multi-media show about atoms, space, the speed of light, volcanos, geometry, and the human condition – to test Heisenberg’s hypothesis. Allow Gregg to be your conceptual concierge, taking you on a visual and musical journey from the edges of the Milky Way down to the molecules in human DNA in this 75-minute exploration of evolution, ecology, and entropy. Appropriate for all ages, though some content is more suitable for ages 14+.

Guests can indulge in tasty snacks, sweets and beer and wine from regional food and beverage artisans. 21+ only, IDs required. OMSI After Dark is typically held on the last Wednesday of every month. The Bylines are bringing their sophisticated, jazz-inspired, story-driven pop music to OMSI! The Bylines consists of songwriters/performers Reece Marshburn and Marianna Thielen. With Thielen on lead vocals and snare and Marshburn on piano and background vocals, the two have opened for Randy Newman, played in venues across the country, and produced two albums utilizing some of the most accomplished jazz musicians in the Northwest.

Bitters Making Workshop

Bitters demystified! Learn how to make and use bitters in this hands-on workshop. This class will cover the history and science of bitters as well as basic formulas, tools, and processes to make bitter tinctures at home.

Cider drinking is a lost American tradition, recapture it here and learn how to make your own! Participants will explore the history and science of cider, as well as learn the steps to turning a half gallon of apple juice from the store into delicious hard cider to drink at home
Fermentation & Microbiome

In this class you will create a batch of kraut to take home, as well as learn the basics of making your own sourdough starter and kombucha SCOBY. You will also get an introduction to your microbiome, and learn about new scientific discoveries on the depth and breadth of how our microbiome influences our health.

Recent scientific “discoveries” have uncovered a revolutionary new building material that could change how we prepare for earthquakes – gingerbread! Come to OMSI and learn how buildings are designed to withstand quakes. Design, build and test your own quake proof gingerbread building. Put your tower on OMSI’s shake table to see if it will survive “the Big One”?!
Soap Making

Learn about and make soap to take home! One ticket allows up to three people (ages 6+ with adult or 12+ without) to work together to make more than a pound of soap (6-8 bars) from scratch in the OMSI Chem Lab. You’ll also explore the chemistry of why soap is so awesome!

Reel Eats taps into the senses using both cinema and cuisine. Each curated bite is tucked away in different numbered boxes matching key moments in the film, enhancing the narrative in electrifying ways. Come join us for this quarterly film series and experience the silver screen like never before.

The Empirical Theater at OMSI

Amazon Adventure
The epic, true story of explorer Henry Bates’ fascinating 11-year journey through the visually stunning and biodiverse Amazon rainforest as a young man who risks his life for science in the 1850’s.
As in any great detective story, audiences will experience the compelling clues Bates unearths in his major discovery of the phenomenon of mimicry, whereby certain animals adopt the look of others that helps them deceive predators and gain an advantage to survive.

Starry Nights LIVE!
Learn about the interesting stories of the constellations and others in this live presentation in OMSI’s Kendall Planetarium. It is not just stars in the night sky—planets, constellations, zodiac, shooting stars, and satellites are all there if you know when and where to look. Navigate by the stars and discover how you can become a backyard astronomer. Topics will change monthly and graphics will be programmed accordingly. All shows are hosted and narrated live by OMSI planetarium staff.
