The Oregon Garden has announced two upcoming programs in its popular Junior Gardener’s Club. The club is designed for children from ages five to 10 and offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about gardening, the outdoors, health and fitness, arts and crafts, community awareness and more. Each program lasts 1½ hours, and includes time in the Garden (weather permitting) and a hands-on theme-related project to take home. All programs meet in the Education Building, next to the Visitor Center, and then venture into the Garden. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
The first program, My Garden Journal, will take place March 9 with two sessions: 10am to 11:30pm or 1pm to 2:30pm. Junior Gardener’s Club has special areas in the Silverton Market Garden and kids will decide what to plant. Garden journals are important in planning and keeping track of how gardens grow, and participants will assemble individual journals and decorate the covers (all materials provided). Kids are encouraged to bring their completed journal to all future programs to record observations throughout the summer.
The second program, It Waters Itself!, will take place on May 11 with two sessions: 10am to 11:30pm or 1pm to 2:30pm. Kids will take their gardening urges indoors and create their own terrariums (all materials provided) and learn about what plants need to grow big and strong.
Kids can pay by the program or purchase an annual membership. Programs only are $3 per child, which includes one adult. Program and Garden admission costs $7 per child and $8 per adult, with a paid Junior Gardener’s Club ticket. An annual Junior Gardener’s Club Membership is $50, and members receive a full year of Garden admission for the child member and one adult guest; a 10% discount at the Visitor Center gift shop and Garden Café; admission to all Junior Gardener’s Club activities (9 per year); and an official Junior Gardener’s Club membership card.
Six more programs will be announced for the second half of the year. To learn more, visit http://www.oregongarden.org/juniorgardener.html.
