Labor Day Weekend 2018 — Saturday Sept 1 and 2 from 9am to 5pm you can select a glass treasure to take home for fall decorating.
Where? On the Oregon Coast, on the grass between 4907 S.W. Hwy 101 & 4933 SW Hwy 101 in Lincoln City (Taft).
There will be around 1,000 hand-blown decorative glass pumpkins to choose from in a variety of colors, prices and sizes.
Patrick Cahill, co-owner of Area 253 Glassblowing will present his work at this fun, coastal event.
Area 253 is a Glassblowing shop in Tacoma, WA that offers classes, and caters to events for groups. Patrick is the master of ceremonies and is really good at it!
“…The glass is hot, like molten honey and when it came to be my turn I forgot all I had observed for the past couple hours. Heh. But it went okay! I dipped my colors, spun it a few times in the kiln, smoothed it into a round shape and blew air into it to make it larger.
It ends with you stamping your initials into the glass and it going into a holding chamber for a few days. The whole process takes about 15-20mins or so, it goes so fast.
You can pick up your piece a couple days later. A great experience and conversation starter!
I’m seriously considering their other workshops too and this makes a great gift for any occasion.” – Jeanny M., Mountlake Terrace, WA (From Yelp)
Patrick Cahill Practicing His Craft
Patrick calls glassblowing “the extreme sport of the art world.” He’s right! I grew up in the art world with my artist parents, but the big difference was that none of their work was at 2,000 degrees – ever! I recently did a workshop with Patrick and it was great fun. The molten glass is a little intimidating at first, as is Patrick, but once we got rolling, there was nothing to it — as long as Patrick was around. Patrick is a great guy and knows his stuff when it comes to molten glass! I knocked out a cool, swirly green & white glass float/paperweight in no time. Well, Patrick did a lot of the knocking out, but I was 100% on-board. I heartily recommend one of his workshops, or longer classes!
