Veteran chef to lead kitchen operations at Currents restaurant for Mother’s Day brunch

Portland chef Michael Stanton has been hired as head chef at Currents at Riverhouse on the Deschutes, one of Bend’s most iconic hotels and restaurants. Most recently of The Heathman Restaurant and Bar in Portland, where he led the culinary team for six years, Stanton will bring a fresh perspective to the kitchen and introduce new offerings to the restaurant’s menu of innovative Pacific Northwest fare. Stanton will join an accomplished team, working alongside restaurant manager Benjamin Edel.

A classically trained chef, Stanton has more than 26 years of experience creating fine French and American cuisine at award-winning restaurants, five-star hotels and high-quality catering operations. An upstate New York native, he worked in New York City with celebrated chefs at Les Celebrites and Lespinasse after completing his studies at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. He then left New York to become sous chef at the renowned French restaurant La Cachette in Los Angeles, where he worked under the tutelage of Jean-Francois Meteigner, Maître Cuisinier de France. By combining classic French techniques with kitchen brigade standards and a passion for fine American cuisine, Stanton developed his own style of running a kitchen and executing dishes.

Chef Stanton will help create a memorable Mother’s Day at Riverhouse by leading kitchen operations for two special brunch options on Sunday, May 14: a buffet in the convention center and a plated meal in Currents.

The lavish buffet will showcase dishes featuring the best flavors of the season, such as a glazed ham with a mustard cream sauce. The rich buffet menu offers diners a wide selection of specialty salads, a chilled Northwest seafood display, a charcuterie and cheese display, a carving station, an omelet station, a waffle station, a hot buffet, and a decadent dessert table. The brunch buffet will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is $45 for adults, $39 for seniors and $19 for children ages 4 to 12; kids under 4 eat free.

Currents restaurant will offer plated fare from the brunch menu, which includes breakfast favorites such as eggs Benedict as well as salads, sandwiches and sides. Brunch will be offered from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prices will vary.
