Delphian School Students to Breathe Life into Shakespeare’s Classic Romeo and Juliet
Delphian School is proud to announce its student performance of William Shakespeare’s classic play Romeo and Juliet at the historic Elsinore Theatre in Salem, Oregon, on Friday, June 2nd, 2023, at 6:30 pm. The play tells the story of two young Italian lovers from feuding families whose romance ends in tragedy. Audiences can look forward to a visually stunning show with colorful characters, beautiful sets, vibrant costumes, and unforgettable performances by some of Delphian’s most talented young actors.
“We are very excited for our students to be able to bring this play to life,” said director Melissa Agrillo. “They have worked hard in preparation for this performance, and we can’t wait to see their hard work come together for a performance the audience can enjoy.”
For over 400 years, Romeo and Juliet has held a special place in the hearts of readers and theatergoers worldwide. At Delphian School, sophomores study Romeo and Juliet as part of a required literature seminar with weekly reading assignments and group discussions. Now, they are thrilled for this opportunity to experience the play firsthand through a stage production.
Delphian’s theater department produces many student productions each year. Student involvement includes performing, set design and production, choreography, music composition, assistant directing, costuming, hair and makeup, prop making, etc. Theater provides the perfect opportunity for learning teamwork, discipline, and perseverance while also learning to communicate to a large audience.

“There’s nothing like the buzz backstage just before the lights go up and the curtain opens on a Delphian theater production,” says Rebecca Orthmann, the production and stage manager. “The students work diligently for months rehearsing, building, and preparing all the pieces needed for a performance, and it’s magical to see it come to life.”
The performance of Romeo and Juliet will take place at Salem’s historic Elsinore Theatre on June 2nd at 6:30 pm. Tickets are available online at elsinoretheatre.com and at the door. Don’t miss out on your chance to witness one of Shakespeare’s greatest works live on stage with Delphian School’s theater department!
