The event will highlight guest artist Lura Schwarz Smith, a textile artist who has merged her art background with quilting techniques in the effort to express the inner life through fabric art. One of her quilts was named one of the “100 Best American Quilts of the 20th Century,” and she was included in the “30 Distinguished Quilt Artists of the World” exhibit at the first Tokyo Dome quilt show in 2002. Schwarz Smith will have quilts on display and be giving daily lectures throughout the show.
For intermediate to advanced quilters quilters seeking in-depth instruction, The Oregon Garden is offering a workshop with Lura Schwarz Smith in conjunction with the Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show. Transforming the Traditional, which will teach quilters how to give old favorites new twists, runs from Jan. 21-23 from 9am to 4pm daily and costs $300; price includes lunch all three days.
The Oregon Garden Resort, a Moonstone Hotel property that offers 103 rooms overlooking The Oregon Garden and the sweeping Willamette Valley, is presenting a variety of lodging packages throughout the week for both Quilt Show and workshop attendees. The event is generously sponsored by Mennonite Village, Stash Tea and The Oregonian. For Quilt Show event details, Quilt Challenge rules, workshop registration information and requirements related to quilt entries, visit www.oregongarden.org/events/
