Three Portland Paint Out Artists will be participating in upcoming Toledo Labor Day Weekend Art Walk

Three of the upcoming September 1-2-3 Labor Day Event Toledo Art Walk 19 artists are shown participating in the 1st Invitational Oregon Plein Air Paint Out sponsored by the Portland Art Museum are Michael Gibbons and Ivan Kelly from Toledo and Marion Moir, Newport.  Almost 40 artists set up their easels amidst the tree-lined boulevard adjacent to the museum and created new works which were exhibited in the Museum’s courtyard the next day. In spite of Portland’s 102 degree temperatures, this leafy outdoor studio was attended by hundreds of excited and engaged viewers.  For many, this was their very first intimate look to see how an outdoor artist responds to his or her subject.

Michael Gibbons: “Thirty eight artists, the best of Oregon, all focusing their painterly skills to begin the Northwest Plein Air Movement have inspired a historic moment in time. Can one imagine the on-going creative energy unleashed that day in the park?”

Ivan Kelly: “In this age of technology and people’s fascination with electronic gadgetry, it is gratifying to see that people still respond to something created in a personally unique way through the heart and mind of an artist

Marion Moir: “The best part of plein air painting is the memory it evokes. It was so special to be among so many fine artists. One of my friends said it was one of her favorite days in her life just to be there as an observer”

The event was sponsored by Oregon Coast Bank and Gamblin Artists Colors and Hotel Lucia, Hotel Deluxe, the Governor Hotel, and the Westin Portland.  Please visit the Museum website for more information www.portlandartmuseum.org. or www.toledoarts.info
