The Yaquina River Museum of Art (YRMA) will offer November visitors a unique opportunity: to see the works of art that their friends and neighbors choose to collect and put in their own homes. YRMA’s “Board’s Own” show will consist of pieces belonging to members of its Board of Directors, curated and hung by Museum curator Michael Gibbons.
“How often are you able to see something you own, and love, on the walls of a museum?” offered YRMA Board Chair Jill Lyon. “It’s a unique opportunity both for Board members and other visitors to the Museum. We just hope there aren’t too many people looking around and saying, ‘I wouldn’t have it in my house.’”
YRMA’s normal mission of highlighting artists and works of the Yaquina River watershed has been enlarged somewhat to accommodate these pieces. However, the show retains a focus on the Oregoncoastal region and artists who have or do work here.
The Board’s Own show will debut at YRMA’s Schoolhouse exhibition space at 151 NE Alder in Toledoduring First Weekend, November 3-4, 2012. First Weekend hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; otherwise, YRMA is open 12 noon – 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The show will remain up through the month of November, with a Christmas exhibition to follow during December and January. Admission to YRMA is free to the public; memberships and donations are encouraged.
